Northern Nevada Medical Center Recognized with Four American Heart Association and American Stroke Association Achievements

Northern Nevada Medical Center (NNMC) has received the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association’s highest national honors including Mission: Lifeline - STEMI Receiving Center – GOLD PLUS, Mission: Lifeline – NSTEMI – GOLD, Get with The Guidelines – Stroke GOLD PLUS with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, and Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure SILVER PLUS with Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll. The awards recognize the hospital’s commitment to ensuring stroke, cardiac and diabetic patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

“These accreditation and awards are an important milestone in cardiovascular care for our Health System,” said Waddy Gonzalez, MD, director of heart failure program. “This is another example of NNMC’s commitment to providing outstanding care for our community and ensuring continuous education of our staff.”

  • NNMC earned the Mission: Lifeline – STEMI Receiving Center – GOLD PLUS award by meeting an achievement score above 75% for two consecutive calendar years. Measurement criteria include providing patients with certain medication and cardiac rehab referrals from an inpatient setting, and meeting time-sensitive marks.
  • NNMC was awarded the Mission: Lifeline – NSTEMI – GOLD award by achieving a score of 85% or greater for two consecutive calendar years. Award requirements include providing a patient with cardiac rehab referral from an inpatient setting and smoking cessation counseling, and the evaluation of the left ventricular systolic functions.
  • NNMC also received the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke GOLD PLUS with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll quality achievement awards. The Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus was achieved by meeting time-specific marks for 75% and 50% of applicable patients. The Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award was achieved by demonstration of high compliance for 12 consecutive months for required measures, including smoking cessation for patients with diabetes and statin prescription at discharge for patients with diabetes.
  • NNMC was also awarded the Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure SILVER PLUS with Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award by demonstrating 75% compliance for 12 consecutive months for required measures, including measuring left ventricle function and scheduling post-discharge appointments for a percentage of eligible patients with heart failure and diabetes.
