Northern Nevada Medical Center is the only hospital in northern Nevada to receive The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ in Orthopedics: Knee Replacement, Orthopedics: Hip Replacement and Spine Surgery. NNMC is also certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and is an Accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society for Chest Pain Centers. Northern Nevada Medical Center is the only hospital in Nevada with all five of these quality distinctions.

The Chest Pain Center at Northern Nevada Medical Center is accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC) for its ability to assess, diagnose, and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

As an Accredited Chest Pain Center, the hospital has demonstrated that effective processes are in place to:

  • Reduce the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment
  • Treat patients more quickly during the critical window of time when the wholeness of the heart muscle can be preserved
  • Monitor patients when it is not certain that they are having a heart attack to ensure that they are not sent home too quickly or needlessly admitted to the hospital

By becoming an Accredited Chest Pain Center, NNMC has enhanced the quality of care for the cardiac patients, demonstrating a commitment to higher standards. With a heart attack, minutes matter. The Chest Pain Center at NNMC is a valuable resource for quality and expedient cardiovascular care.

The Primary Stroke Center at NNMC has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™. With this advanced certification, Northern Nevada Medical Center has demonstrated that it provides the next generation of stroke care and has proven compliance with nationally developed standards for stroke care. The dedicated Stroke Response Team is trained to assess each patient to determine if they have had a stroke and to begin appropriate treatment options.

The Wound Care Center at Northern Nevada Medical Center recently received the Center of Distinction Award for Quality Patient Care and for the second consecutive year, the Center of Excellence Award.

Healogics Inc. has recognized NNMC for the following outstanding patient outcomes in 2012:

  • More than 92 percent patient satisfaction
  • 91 percent wound healing rate
  • 30 median days to heal
  • Outlier rate less than or equal to 19 percent

The NNMC Would Care Center introduced the region’s first physician-supervised hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a technology that has a nearly 90 percent effectiveness in treatment of hypoxic wounds and necrotizing soft tissue infections. With this specialized service, Northern Nevada Medical Center has been able to heal patients in our community who might otherwise have experienced an amputation or other life-threatening condition.
