Your Hospital Team
Your attending physician is primarily responsible for your care. All tests, medications and consultations with other specialists are performed or administered under your attending physician's supervision. If you were not under the care of a physician affiliated with Northern Nevada Medical Center when you were admitted to the hospital, a physician will be assigned to you. During your stay, you may meet physicians-in-training and medical students. Patient care is enhanced by this additional attention. Your participation contributes greatly to house staff and medical student education at this hospital.
Our nursing staff is committed to providing comprehensive care to patients, each of whom requires a different level of personal attention and expert skills. You will be assigned a registered nurse who will coordinate a thorough nursing assessment, plan of care, and continuous monitoring of your health status throughout your hospitalization. Other care givers, under the direction of the registered nurse, will be assigned to care for you. A nurse manager is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care on each unit. Please feel free to contact your nurse or the nurse manager if you have questions or concerns.
Northern Nevada Medical Center has several volunteer clergy from the community who can be contacted at your request. Please contact case management at 775-356-4005 for further information. Others who help are lay men and women who have special training. Your priest, minister or rabbi is always welcome to visit you while you are here.
The hospital maintains a staff of full-time registered dietitians and dietetic technicians to meet your dietary needs during your stay. A dietitian or dietetic technician may visit you shortly after admission to discuss your nutritional needs and food preferences.
Case managers are assigned to each patient care area and are trained to help patients and family members deal with financial, social, and emotional problems that relate to illness or hospitalization. Members of the department work with you and your family with concerns related to your illness and are involved in discharge planning. To speak with a case manager, you, your family, your physician or nurse should call the case management department at 775-356-4005.
Your room is cleaned daily by a member of the housekeeping staff. If there is a housekeeping problem in your room, tell your nurse, and it will be taken care of as soon as possible.
Volunteers contribute many hours of compassionate service and financial assistance to the Hospital and our community. They supplement the services of the hospital staff in many ways and can be identified by their name tags and blue fleece vests in the winter or polo shirts in the summer. Volunteers provide scholarships to three local Sparks high schools, as well as providing funds for educational opportunities within the ranks of our own staff members. Some of the many volunteer opportunities at the hospital include assisting patients and families through the dietary, gift shop, emergency room, business office, admitting office, hospitality, book cart and the medical and surgical units of the hospital. The information desk is located in the first floor lobby near the main entrance of the hospital.
During your stay you may be visited by other healthcare professionals, including technicians, technologists and therapists. In addition, the Northern Nevada Medical Center family includes many behind-the-scenes workers such as accountants, engineers, secretaries, food service workers and others who contribute greatly toward your well-being while you are here.
