Heart Attack Care

The Chest Pain Center at Northern Nevada Medical Center is accredited by the Society of Cardiovascular Care for its ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. As an Accredited Chest Pain Center, the hospital has demonstrated that effective processes are in place to:

  • Reduce the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment
  • Treat patients more quickly during the critical window of time when the wholeness of the heart muscle can be preserved
  • Monitor patients when it is not certain that they are having a heart attack to ensure that they are not sent home too quickly or needlessly admitted to the hospital

By becoming an Accredited Chest Pain Center, NNMC has enhanced the quality of care for the cardiac patients, demonstrating a commitment to higher standards. With a heart attack, minutes matter. The Chest Pain Center at NNMC is a valuable resource for quality and expedient cardiovascular care.

NNMC received the Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Gold Receiving and Mission: Lifeline NSTEMI Silver Quality Achievement Awards in 2020 for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association® for the treatment of patients who suffer heart attacks. The program’s goal is to reduce system barriers to prompt treatment for heart attacks, beginning with the 9-1-1 call, to EMS transport and continuing through hospital treatment and discharge. NNMC earned the award by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for the quick and appropriate treatment of NSTEMI heart attack patients by providing emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries when needed.

NNMC has also received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2018. NNMC is one of only 203 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

The award recognizes NNMC’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that our hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
