"A" for Patient Safety in Spring 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade
NNMC was awarded its 9th consecutive "A" from The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. This designation recognizes the hospital's efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare.
Leapfrog Top Hospital Award for Outstanding Quality and Safety (2020)
Highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, Northern Nevada Medical Center (NNMC) was named a Top General Hospital nationally by The Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive.
Ranked a Top Hospital for Excellence in Patient Safety
Premier Inc., a healthcare improvement organization, recognized Northern Nevada Medical Center as one of 27 hospitals across the nation that is excelling in patient safety. The hospital was the only organization recognized in Nevada.
The Joint Commission Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®
This award recognizes NNMC for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for heart attack, stroke, pneumonia and immunizations and surgical care. In order to receive this recognition, NNMC had to achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or higher across all reported accountability measures, on every reported accountability measure where there are at least 30 cases, and have at least one core measure set that has a composite rate of 95 percent or higher.

Northern Nevada Medical Center is accredited in mammography, CT, MRI and ultrasound/vascular imaging services by the American College of Radiology.
Heart Attack Care Awards
Society of Cardiovascular Care Accreditation
This accreditation was awarded to NNMC for its ability to assess, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. As an Accredited Chest Pain Center, the hospital has demonstrated that effective processes are in place to reduce the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment, treat patients more quickly during the critical window of time when the wholeness of the heart muscle can be preserved, and monitor patients when it is not certain that they are having a heart attack to ensure that they are not sent home too quickly or needlessly admitted to the hospital.
Joint Commission Certified: Acute Stroke and Heart Attack Ready (ER at McCarran NW)
To better care for its patients, the ER at McCarran NW follows a specific, interdisciplinary plan to continually improve stroke and heart attack outcomes. These awards reflect commitment to providing the highest quality care for stroke and heart attack patients and signify excellence in patient care, short-times for treatment, and patient satisfaction with care.
Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Plus Award - Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll and Get With The Guidelines Heart Failure Gold Plus Award - Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll (2023)
The Target: Heart Failure Honor Roll was awarded by demonstrating 75% compliance for 24 consecutive months for required measures. The Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll was awarded for achieving 75% compliance for 24 consecutive months for measures including post-discharge appointment for heart failure patients with diabetes and smoking cessation for patients with diabetes.
Mission: Lifeline® - NSTEMI Gold Award (2023)
NNMC earned this award by achieving a score of 85% or greater for two consecutive calendar years. Award requirements include providing a patient with cardiac rehab referral from an inpatient setting and smoking cessation counseling, and the evaluation of the left ventricular systolic functions.
Mission: Lifeline® Gold Plus STEMI Receiving and Mission: Lifeline® Gold NSTEMI Quality Achievement Awards (2022)
This is awarded for implementing specific quality improvement measures outlined by the American Heart Association® for the treatment of patients who suffer heart attacks. The program’s goal is to reduce system barriers to prompt treatment for heart attacks, beginning with the 9-1-1 call, to EMS transport and continuing through hospital treatment and discharge. NNMC earned the award by meeting specific criteria and standards of performance for the quick and appropriate treatment of NSTEMI heart attack patients by providing emergency procedures to re-establish blood flow to blocked arteries when needed.
American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award (2018)
NNMC is one of only 203 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor. The award recognizes NNMC’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that our hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

The Joint Commission Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Certification
These certifications recognize NNMC’s commitment to the highest level of care for its knee replacement and hip replacement patients. Certification demonstrates dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards including medication management and infection prevention and control.
Pain Management Center Awards
The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval in Back Pain
The program is the first in the nation to receive this certification. This certification recognizes NNMC's dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission's state-of-the-art standards. To achieve this prestigious certification, the hospital underwent a rigorous on-site evaluation by The Joint Commission. NNMC earned certification by providing compliance with nationally developed standards including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management.
Spine Surgery Awards
The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ in Spine Surgery
NNMC’s Spine Center of Excellence is the only program in northern Nevada to earn this award. This certification recognizes NNMC’s commitment to the highest level of care for its back and neck surgery patients. Certification demonstrates dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards including medication management and infection prevention and control.
Healthgrades Five Star Recipient for Spinal Fusion Surgery (2022)
NNMC received a five-star distinction for excellence in spinal fusion surgery. Healthgrades recognizes facilities that achieve patient outcomes that are significantly higher than predictive outcomes.
Stroke Services Awards
The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™
With this advanced certification, Northern Nevada Medical Center has demonstrated that it provides the next generation of stroke care and has proven compliance with nationally developed standards for stroke care. The dedicated Stroke Response Team is trained to assess each patient to determine if they have had a stroke and to begin appropriate treatment options.
Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Award - Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll and Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Award - Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll (2023)
The Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus was achieved by meeting time-specific marks for 75% and 50% of applicable patients for 24 consecutive months. The Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award was achieved by demonstration of high compliance for 24 consecutive months for required measures, including smoking cessation for patients with diabetes and statin prescription at discharge for patients with diabetes.
Wound Care Awards
Healogics Center of Distinction Award and Robert A. Warriner III, MD Center of Excellence Award
Since opening in 2008, The Wound Care Center has been recognized by these awards seven and five times, respectively. The Center received these honors by exceeding outstanding clinical and operational results set forth by a patient satisfaction rate of at least 92 percent, wound healing rate of at least 91 percent, and 30 or less median days to heal.
Healogics Inc. President’s Circle Honoree for Sustained Excellence (2016)
The Wound Care Center is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 800 Centers, with access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. The Wound Care Center was one of only 34 centers to receive the President’s Circle recognition.
Nevada Hospital Association Infection Reduction Recognition
NNMC was recognized for its efforts to improve patient safety by reducing or eliminating healthcare-associated infections. NNMC was the only hospital of the 18 Nevada hospitals who participated in the NHA's program to receive four separate awards. The program focused on proper catheter insertion practices, care and removal of catheters, and reduction in use of indwelling catheters. NNMC's Medical Telemetry Unit and Intensive Care Unit were recognized for reducing catheter-associated urinary tract infections. The Medical Telemetry Unit was also recognized for reducing the use of catheters and the Medical Surgical Unit was honored for its record of zero catheter-associated urinary tract infections.
