Northern Nevada Medical Center Breaks Ground on Freestanding Emergency Department in Northwest Reno
Northern Nevada Medical Center (NNMC) is expanding its footprint in northern Nevada to meet the demand for accessible healthcare. The hospital held a groundbreaking for a new freestanding emergency department (FED) in northwest Reno. The facility, ER at McCarran NW, is the first of its kind in Reno-Sparks.
“We are excited to extend emergency services in Reno and meet the healthcare demands of our growing region,” said Alan Olive, CEO of Northern Nevada Medical Center. “This new facility will deliver care closer to home, and through board-certified physicians and skilled nursing staff, we will treat patients similarly to that of a hospital ER.”
The FED in northwest Reno will be the first freestanding emergency medical care center in Reno-Sparks, and will be conveniently available to patients in their neighborhood. Hours of operation are 24/7, and patients do not need an appointment prior to arrival.
Similar to a hospital ER, the FED will treat a variety of emergency medical needs, including chest pain, broken bones, minor lacerations, flu and other ailments. If a patient requires a higher level of care, NNMC will work with local EMS to transport patients to an appropriate regional hospital.
The FED will feature eight treatment rooms, including fast-track exam rooms designed to efficiently triage low-severity patients. Also offered are advanced imaging services (such as CT and X-ray), lab and pharmacy. The FED delivery of care model is designed to produce shorter wait times for patients that do not require robust services offered at a full-service hospital. NNMC anticipates that opening this facility will streamline care across the region, so all hospital ER wait times lessen.
NNMC plans to open more facilities like this in northern Nevada in an effort to provide patients with quality emergency care that is neighborhood-based.
