Physical Therapy Treatment to Reduce Pain

Dry needling is a treatment used in physical therapy to help reduce pain in affected areas. Not to be confused with acupuncture, in dry needling a small, thin, flexible needle is inserted into the deeper tissues that are considered trigger points to your pain.

Dry needling is virtually painless, however, sometimes an involuntary twitch occurs from the muscle. This twitch response happens only momentarily and is completely normal. Many describe this feeling as a little electric shock, cramp or an ache sensation. Your physical therapist will do everything they can to make your experience comfortable and therapeutic.

This treatment may be able to help you if you experience pain in any of the following areas:

  • Neck
  • Back
  • Shoulder
  • Arm (elbow)
  • Head (headaches/migraines)
  • Buttock
  • Leg
  • Foot

If you are experiencing pain in other areas, talk to your physical therapist to see if dry needling can help you.
